A Local CPA Who Knows Gwinnett Business

Gwinnett is not a generic market. Your CPA should not be generic either.

Gwinnett County is one of the most active business economies in Georgia, home to advanced manufacturers, distribution and logistics operations along I-85, a growing technology corridor in Peachtree Corners, healthcare systems, contractors, and thousands of owner-run small businesses. Each of those brings its own tax obligations, credits, and filing deadlines.

R.L. Brown CPA works with Gwinnett business owners the way a real advisor should: reducing what you owe, keeping you compliant with county and state requirements most preparers miss, and helping you plan ahead. We are based in Dacula and we work across the entire county.

The Gwinnett Business Landscape

What is happening in Gwinnett changes what happens on your return

Gwinnett's economy runs on the corridors you see from I-85 and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard: distribution centers, warehouses, and manufacturers moving goods across state lines. On the east side of the county, the Rowen innovation district on Highway 316, anchored by UCB's new biologics facility, is one of the largest investments in the county's history.

That matters at tax time. A distribution business faces multi-state sales tax questions a retailer never sees. A manufacturer has credits and exemptions a service firm cannot claim. Knowing the difference is the difference between a preparer and an advisor.

Industry Tax Expertise

Depth where Gwinnett businesses need it

The same return handled two different ways can mean thousands of dollars. We plan around the credits, exemptions, and filings specific to your industry.

Logistics & Distribution

Operations along I-85, Peachtree Industrial, and the Braselton corridor face multi-state sales-and-use tax nexus, apportionment, and the Freeport inventory exemption. We handle registration, nexus reviews, and the county personal-property filings that come with holding inventory.

Manufacturing & R&D

Gwinnett's advanced manufacturers can claim Georgia's manufacturing sales-tax exemption, the R&D credit, and Investment and Job Tax Credits, plus cost-segregation and accelerated depreciation on heavy equipment. We make sure none of it is left on the table.

Technology & Startups

From the Peachtree Corners tech corridor to new ventures countywide, we advise on entity choice and S-corp elections, the R&D credit, founder equity, and multi-state payroll for remote teams, so your structure supports growth from day one.

Retail & Restaurants

Shops and restaurants from the Mall of Georgia corridor to Gwinnett's downtown town centers deal with sales-tax collection, seasonal cash flow, inventory accounting, and occupation-tax classes that differ between city and unincorporated county.

Professional & Healthcare Practices

Owner-led firms and medical practices need the right entity structure, partner and physician compensation planning, accountable plans, and retirement-plan design, so more of what the practice earns stays with its owners.

Real Estate & Construction

Investors, developers, and contractors rely on job costing, cost segregation, 1031 planning, and cash-flow strategy built around draw schedules and project timelines, not a one-size-fits-all return.

The Gwinnett Business Tax Calendar

The local deadlines most preparers forget

Federal filings get all the attention, but Gwinnett County has its own calendar. These are the ones that quietly cost local owners money.

Jan 1 – Apr 1

Business Personal Property Return (PT-50P)

Every Gwinnett business must report its furniture, fixtures, equipment, and inventory owned as of January 1 to the county Tax Assessors' Office on Langley Drive. Miss it and the county estimates your value for you, usually higher.

Jan 1 – Apr 1

Freeport Inventory Exemption (PT-50PF)

Gwinnett grants a 100% Level-1 Freeport exemption on qualifying inventory: raw materials, goods in process, and finished goods bound out of state. It has to be filed on time, or the entire exemption is waived for the year.

By Feb 15

Occupation Tax Certificate Renewal

Your Gwinnett business license renews annually. Rates run by gross-revenue class plus a flat fee, and businesses inside a city limit renew with the city, not the county, an easy trap for multi-location owners.

Quarterly

Estimated Tax & Payroll Deadlines

Business owners and the self-employed owe quarterly estimated taxes, and employers face payroll deposit and reporting schedules. We keep you ahead of the dates instead of chasing penalties.

Dates and rates reflect current Gwinnett County and Georgia requirements and can change. We confirm the specifics for your business every year.

Local Advisor vs. National Chain

Software files a return. A local CPA builds a strategy.

A national prep chain or a piece of software does not know that your inventory qualifies for Freeport, that your equipment purchase opens a credit, or that your city renews your license instead of the county. We do, because Gwinnett is where we work every day.

You get a real person who takes the time to understand your business, meets with you face to face, and looks after your taxes all year, not just in April.
